Ethical Teachings of Islam

Complete the questions from the lesson today. It is important that you have a consistent understanding of this in order to initiate a response on ethical teachings.

Reasoning:
In many cases, the HSC question will focus on the broad concept of ethical teaching first, then ask you to explore the concepts using the particular area of emphasis. This means that you need to first explore what Islamic ethical teachings are then you give examples using your sexual ethics research.
  1. What is the process of Islamic Jurisprudence?
  2. Explain the importance of Ethical teachings
    1. Where can Muslims find instruction of ethical teachings? (Shariah - key terminology)
    2. Why should Muslims follow ethical principles?
      1. What benefits are there? (key terminology?)
    3. What happens to Islam if they have no ethical foundation?
  3. What are the principal Ethical teachings within Islam?
    1. Look at the big picture, what are the key concepts? (refer to the ISRA powerpoint in the previous post)
    2. Be broad, don't just focus on sexual ethics, consider the ethical principles that inform decisions around all ethics.
    3. Where can these teachings be found?
This is to be completed for Tuesday. Make sure it is to an acceptable standard (approx 1/2 page for each question)

Preparation for Ethics Work - Evidence

The following post is related to the process that you need to go through in order to gather relevant information about the Islamic views on issues relating to sexual ethics.

Taking information from the ISRA PowerPoint on Sexual Ethics in the post below, you are to provide evidence (where possible) that supports the ISRA statements. You are to begin from slide 17 titled 'Sexual Ethics'

For example:

Sexual relations within marriage are spiritually rewarding because in having sexual relations, you are fulfilling an instruction from God

‘When they [i.e., the wives] have cleansed themselves [after menstruation], you go into them as Allah has commanded.
Surah Baqarah (2:222)

This also addresses the idea that it is Harram to have sexual intercourse during menstruation.
